Year 7 Holocaust Memorial Day.
As part of their studies of 'In The News' Year 7 pupils spent Thursday remembering the Holocaust especially thinking about kinder transport children and those who travelled to Millisle in N. Ireland. The day began with Mrs. Shirley Lennon speaking to the pupils in assembly about journeys and 3 Jewish people in particular who made a journey to N. Ireland during World War 2.
Wearing our name tags and having packed our suitcases, the Year 7 pupils then made their way to the Strand Arts Centre to watch 2 short films, listen to an historical character from World War 2 as well as listen to Mr Kohner, the son of a Jewish couple who escaped Czecheslovakia and set up the farm in Millisle.
This was an informative, thought provoking day for our pupils as we thought about the Holocaust. Strandtown PS would like to place on record its thanks to Mrs. Ali Fell at Strand Arts Centre for her interest, help and guidance through this project. It was very much appreciated by us all.
A moving day with much to think about for our Year 7 pupils.
