Strandtown Compete in All Ireland Chess Competition
On Tuesday 11th June Strandtown Primary School were competing, as Ulster Champions, in the All Ireland Primary School Championships. This is the third year in a row Strandtown have qualified for this event. The team consisted of 9 players - Dexter Harris, Reuben Magill, Naomi Hamilton, Blake Harris, Tara Spence, Caleb Carson, Sam Glasgow, Micah Bleakley, and Ross McCrory. They performed incredibly well against the top players in Ireland, winning 2 out of their 5 matches. Two players were undefeated throughout the tournament - Dexter Harris who scored 4.5 / 5 on the top board (winning a medal for best performance by a Strandtown player) and Ross MCrory who scored 3.5 / 4.
