School Council and Eco Committee Work Together to Reduce Single Use Plastic Bottles in Strandtown. Every Pupil Will Receive a Reusable Water bottle!
Eco committee and School council enjoyed a visit today from NI Water representatives, Anna and Pat. They gave us 1000 water bottles for the pupils and 100 for staff! Please make sure you name yours and use it in school. We are so close to being ‘single use’ bottle free – and now there is really no excuse!
Anna, a former Strandtown pupil gave us a really interesting, interactive chat about the dangers of water pollution and how we can reduce, reuse and recycle to help prevent water wastage and misuse. We also learned about the contamination of water sources and beaches by plastic, wipes, plastic cotton buds, nappies and other discarded items. We were horrified and decided that next year we will add this topic into our school’s eco focus. Maybe we will have the chance to clean up a beach or riverside!
Anna gave us a really good tip – if everyone who visits a beach takes home their own litter and 3 pieces of litter which has been abandoned on the beach we can go a long way to cleaning up our local beaches quickly and effectively before more damage is caused to wildlife and the environment. A great challenge for each pupil.
We look forward to working closely with NI Water again next year.
