Memories of World War Two shared with Year 7 pupils by a Wonderful Nana.
Yesterday, Room 13 were privileged to welcome some very special guests.
Ewan Hutchinson’s great grandmother, Nana Mollie Mark, accompanied by her daughter, Heather, visited to share her memories of WW2, when she was a teenager. Nana Mollie will celebrate her 97th birthday next week!
We learned what it was like to live during times of rationing and evacuation and Nana Mollie shared many interesting personal stories about her life and family. Her husband, Fred, had been a fighter pilot during the war and rescued soldiers from Dunkirk. After the end of the war in Europe, he was transferred to a base in Japan and flew over Hiroshima after the hydrogen bomb had been dropped.
This was an amazing visit and the whole class could have listened to and questioned Nana Mollie for hours; she has so many interesting and varied anecdotes to share. Thank you so much for coming in!
