Irish Hockey World Cup Silver Medalists Visit Strandtown P.S.
On Friday morning, Year 7 had a wonderful visit from two Irish Hockey players who won silver medals at the World Cup in London last year. (Lizzie Colvin and Shirley McCay) With well over 400 caps between them, the Year 7 pupils were enthralled as they listened to the players speak and answer a range of questions from Mr. Ewart.
Jessica, Rose and Hannah from Room 14 are all enthusiastic hockey players and all choose Lizzie Colvin as their celebrity person to write to. So impressed was Lizzie by the girls’ letters, that she decided to not only send them each a lovely handwritten reply but to also come and visit them at their school.
This was a wonderful morning for all of our Year 7 pupils and there was a great message for the players at the end when they encouraged our pupils to work hard in all that they do and to not let disappointments and failures stand in the way of their ambitions.
Thank you Rose, Jessica and Hannah for your great letters and to Lizzie and Shirley for giving of your time to visit our school. We really loved having you. ☘️
