Boys' Hockey Team at N. Ireland Finals.
It was a case of ‘so near and yet so far’ at the N.I. Finals today at Stormont for our boys’ hockey team. Having finished 3rd in their group in the morning stages with 2 wins, 2 defeats and 1 draw, Strandtown found themselves placed in the cup competition along with King’s Park and Dunaghy PS. Having drawn the first game 1-1, Strandtown needed to win their final pool match to progress to the semi finals. Leading 2-1 and on course for the semi finals, with only 20 seconds of the match remaining Dunaghy scored a deflected goal meaning they would progress to the semi finals and not Strandtown.
Despite their disappointment, the boys can hold their heads high, especially for their 2 performances this afternoon which received much praise from the knowledgeable onlookers.
Mr. Ewart and Mr. Dowdall would like to take this opportunity to thank the boys for all the effort, commitment and enthusiasm they have shown to hockey this year. As 8 of this team will be leaving Strandtown at the end of this year, we wish you well for your future hockey, sporting and academic opportunities.
One last quote....
To play the game is good
To win the game is better
To love the games is best.
